April Guzik
Creative Director

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising and Design,
International Academy of Design and Technology -Chicago
AIGA Member, Houston Chapter President

Born and raised in Chicago, April brings eight years of marketing and design experience to Keystone Resources. With her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Advertising and Design from International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago, April has advanced her passion for print design into website design. She sees website design as an exciting mathematical equation that at times can be challenging, but more fulfilling than anything else upon completion.

Prior to joining Keystone Resources, April acted as a graphic designer for many local publications such as American Color (Houston Chronicle), The Houston Press, The Houston Business Journal and Health and Fitness Sports Magazine before realizing that a design firm was really where her heart belonged.

While she still sprinkles in her passion for print design, being Keystone Resources’ resident Creative Director has allowed her to oversee design and development of all print and web material. She enthralls herself in the client’s company and brand to help her understand and apply their concepts to each aspect of branding. She sees herself as more of a design therapist who takes what is in one’s mind and turns it into design.

April walks, talks and breathes design – especially when it has to do with bringing awareness to the Houston design community. As the AIGA- Houston chapter President, she dedicates countless hours to ensuring the success and future of graphic design in Houston. Since becoming president in July 2010, she continuously works to create a design army that will bring competition to other large metropolitan areas.

Quirks we love: April has a certain presence when walking into the office. With her coffee in hand every morning and always carrying more than her purse will hold, she can never leave home without her daily planner, her notebooks and her favorite mouse. She is the only PaperSource addict we know, which explains her intense love for crafts, book binding and wedding invitations.

When finding time to relax, April enjoys spending time with her lovable puppies Gunnz and Ammo, who of course have matching camouflage collars. She loves event planning and does pro bono work for Charity Chicks Houston.

I’d like to visit: the UK. I love the design that comes from the masterminds there!

My favorite pantone color is: 2593

I relieve stress by: Finding new destinations to visit. I seek out somewhere new [like the Orange Show or Winter Street Studios] that applies to my industry. My creativity is sparked and it helps apply new angles to my talent.

My comfort food is: Giordano's deep dish pizza from Chicago, Fannie May Pixies | Gourmet Chocolate Caramel Candies.

If I had a super power I wish I could: Inspire others to be open minded to another’s views. Too many of us become defensive when another doesn’t view a point the same way. To have true character, you must be willing to understand another’s point of view and work together to obtain a positive result.

My ipod always plays: A mix between indie [Spoon, Menomena, Foals, Matt & Kim, just to name a few] and Techno. Techno helps me focus on coding websites and shutting the rest of the world out.

My biggest pet peeve is: Those who try too hard to fit into the stereotype of a designer. Love a certain aspect of the industry because you own it, not because everyone wants to own it.

My guilty pleasures are: COFFEE and interior design. I incorporate my love for graphic design into elements of interior design.

My great achievement: Taking the reins of AIGA Houston President. One of my many initiatives as President is to create a design army in Houston that attracts national clients as well as breaks the stereotype of Houstonians in the design industry.
